Employment gains in January again were seen across a wide variety of industries. Construction hiring was strong, with payrolls up by 36,000, and manufacturing employment also expanded (+15,000). Accommodation and food services jobs grew by 32,500. Employment in the professional and business services sector grew by 23,000, and health care jobs increased by 20,600 in January. Together, these two sectors accounted for around a third of all of U.S. employment growth in 2017.
