Hiring activity in the U.S. was moderate in April, with employers adding 164,000 workers to their payrolls, fairly in line with consensus expectations. Revisions to the previous two months’ employment figures added a net 30,000 to the totals, bringing the average employment gain for the first four months of 2018 to just under 200,000 per month—slightly faster than 2017’s average of 182,000 per month.
