Take Your Webmaster To Lunch!

Every organization relies on its website to connect with consumers. That’s why it’s critical to have a user-friendly and functional website that not only attracts consumers but also provides data about how they use the site in order to optimize it. Naturally, the professional who's responsible for ensuring your website runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis is your webmaster. He or she maintains and updates the design and content, ensures the server is functioning properly, monitors traffic, and troubleshoots issues—and that’s no small task in this age of digital transformation and borderless enterprises.

Nevertheless, few people truly understand the importance and scope of the webmaster’s role—and since webmasters work behind the scenes, they don’t always get the recognition they deserve. That’s why it’s good to know that July 6th is “Take Your Webmaster to Lunch Day.” Here are a few suggestions for recognizing and rewarding the person who works so hard every day to keep your company’s website running smoothly:

  • Take your webmaster to lunch. It’s the most conventional way to celebrate the day—and it can be a lot of fun. Find out what your webmaster’s favorite restaurant or cuisine is, and organize a team lunch where he or she will be the guest of honor. If you can’t get away during the workday, you can always opt for a dinner or arrange the lunch on a weekend instead.
  • Recognize your webmaster’s contributions and accomplishments. Make a list of your webmaster's most notable achievements, for example how he or she worked tirelessly to migrate your organization’s system to a cloud-based platform or continuously helps optimize your sales funnel based on website traffic data. You can share these achievements with the rest of the team during the lunch; but you can also send them out in a group email or highlight them in the company newsletter.
  • Surprise your webmaster with a gift voucher. If a lunch or dinner isn’t an option, it’s a good idea to give your webmaster a gift voucher for his or her favorite restaurant or store.

Regardless of how you choose to recognize your webmaster, the main point is to show your gratitude for his or her contributions in a nice, respectful manner. By doing so, you’ll not only give your webmaster a boost, you’ll also create more appreciation for his or her role within your company—and that can even contribute to a stronger, more cohesive, and more productive team.
