Three Tech Jobs That Are Hot Right Now
Technology is becoming more and more important in our personal and professional lives—and the job market reflects that fact. Employers around the world are looking for—and willing to pay competitive salaries for—candidates with tech skills. Here are three tech jobs that are in high demand right now:
1. Data scientist: Ranked number one in the Glassdoor.com list of “50 Best Jobs in America,” data scientists are in high demand across a wide range of industries. The relatively recent advent of big data and the ability to not only analyze it, but also use it predictively provides organizations with in-depth insights into performance, productivity, and industry trends—so long as they have skilled data scientists. While many established data scientists have grown into their professions from a statistics, data management, or programming background, there are currently a number of bootcamps, as well as certification programs that provide comprehensive training. Data scientists can typically earn an annual salary of $100,000 or more, depending on the location and employer.
2. IT manager: An IT manager is responsible for coordinating and maintaining an organization’s network and systems so they support the organization’s operational goals. He or she is in charge of hiring other IT professionals as needed, keeping the soft- and hardware are up-to-date and functional, and ensuring the network performs smoothly at all times. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 53,700 new IT manager jobs will be added between 2014 and 2024. IT managers typically have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, as well as relevant work experience, and they earn an average of $131,600 per year.
3. Information security analyst: Cybercrime is on the rise—and organizations need to protect their networks and data. Information security analysts create and implement strategies to keep their companies’ networks safe, including preparing emergency plans that should be implemented in the event of a breach. Information security analysts need a degree in computer science and practical experience in the field, and they can expect a salary of approximately $90,000 per year.
It’s important to keep in mind that technology is advancing quickly. Over the next few years, existing tech roles are likely to evolve and new ones may even be created. So if you’re passionate about a career in tech, stay abreast of developments and if necessary, take action to acquire new marketable skills and experience.
